The Collins-Maxwell track programs hosted their first-ever home meet as Spartans April 11 in Maxwell.

The Spartans Christened the new Spartan Stadium and Track by each taking first at the Spartan Relays. The Collins-Maxwell girls scored 183 points to beat West Marshall's 150 for first place out of five teams and the Spartan boys finished with 158 points to beat BCLUW by 31 points for first out of seven schools.

The Collins-Maxwell track teams also competed at Colo-NESCO's Dave Robinson Relays Friday at Cub Stadium in Nevada. The Spartan girls picked up another victory, scoring 131 points to edge Colfax-Mingo's score of 121.5 for first out of nine teams and the Collins-Maxwell boys placed second out of nine teams with 116 points.

The Ballard girls track team took second at the Carroll Co-ed Invitational April 10 in Carroll with 109 points. The Bomber boys won three races and placed second in six events.

The Ballard boys also competed at the Saydel Invitational April 13. The Bombers took third out of 16 teams with 76 points.

The Ballard boys tennis team went 2-2 during the week. The Bombers fell to Urbandale by a 9-2 score and defeated Grinnell, 9-2, at the Urbandale triangular April 10, blanked Clarke by a 9-0 score April 11 in Huxley and fell at Norwalk, 8-3, April 14 in going to 4-4 on the season.

The Bomber girls tennis team suffered a 7-4 loss to Norwalk at home April 13. The loss put the girls at 3-2.

The Ballard golf teams both won at Carroll April 10.

The Bomber girls defeated Carroll in a 9-hole dual at the Breda Golf Course, 196-205. The boys won a triangular at the Carroll Municipal Golf Course, shooting a 159 over nine holes to beat Carroll's 169 and Boone's 188.

The Ballard boys also took fourth at the Woodward-Granger Invitational at the Woodward Golf Club April 13 with an 18- hole score of 339.

The Ballard boys soccer team rebounded from an 8-0 loss at Greene County April 10 with a 2-1 home win over Boone and a 4-2 win at Carroll April 14 in going to 2-4 on the season.

The Bomber girls soccer team bounced back from a 1-0 loss at Boone April 12 with a 10-0 home victory over Carroll April 13. The win over Carroll put the girls at 2-3.

Here's what we learned from this week's Tri-County area high school sports action.

The Collins-Maxwell track teams made sure their first home meet ended in a big celebration by winning both the boys' and girls' team competitions.

The Spartan girls won six events to earn their title.

Mary Staudt took first in both the shot and discus with respective distances of 36 feet, 3.25 inches and 118-1.5. Staudt won the shot by just under five feet and the discus by an impressive margin of 27-9.

Chloe Wierson and Cypress Erickson also gave Collins-Maxwell field event wins in both jumping events. Wierson won the high jump with a 4-10 effort and Erickson took first in the long jump with a distance of 14-5.5.

On the track Wierson won the girls' 100 and 200-meter dash events in 13.47 and 27.37 seconds respectively. She beat Albia's Abby George in both, with George running the 100 in 13.86 and the 200 in 27.77.

Wierson also took second to George in the 400 with a 1:06.12 showing. George ran a 1:02.16.

Marissa Boege won the 100 hurdles in 17.59, easily beating the 18.36 effort by BCLUW's Leila Wedgwood for the gold. Collins-Maxwell's Hannah Kimberley was third in 19.02.

Kimberley and Ashlyn Leslie were third and fourth in the 400 hurdles with respective times of 1:17.14 and 1:19.07. In relays the Spartan girls won the shuttle hurdle in 1:17.32, placed second in the 4X200 and sprint medley with respective times of 2:02.45 and 2:04.55 and took third in the 4X100 (56.99) and 4X400 (4:50.83).

The Collins-Maxwell boys saw senior Ethan Haus come up huge by winning three individual distance events.

Haus took first in the 3,200 after running an 11:53.42 to beat out teammate Silas Kimberley, who finished in 12:10.50. In the 1,600 Haus clocked in at 5:08.32 in the 1,600 to beat out the 5:12.06 effort by Martensdale St. Marys' Aden Moore and 5:20.47 showing by Silas.

In the 800 Haus ran a 2:13.20 to top West Marshall's Dylan Thompson for the win after Thompson finished in 2:18.25. Collins-Maxwell's Isaiah Hill placed third in 2:21.26.

Isaac Brown ran a 12.06 in the 100 to beat out the 12.25 effort by West Marshall's Jace Eich for first. Josef Dvorak completed the open 400 in 53.67 to place second behind the 53.22 run by GMG's Jabari Woodbury.

In relays the Collins-Maxwell boys won the 4X100 and 4X200 with respective times of 47.29 and 1:38.37. They also took first in the 4X400 with a 3:47.18 showing, the sprint medley in 1:42.83 and the distance medley in 4:05.04.

The Spartan boys added a second-place time of 9:45.16 in the 4X800.

Wierson won three events and she placed second in another at the Dave Robinson Relays.

Wierson took first in the open 100, 200 and 400 with respective times of 13.73, 27.15 and 1:05.01. She was runner-up in the high jump with a distance of 4-10.

Staudt won the girls' shot put with a toss of 33-8 and she was second in the discus with a throw of 110-2. Emma Pasquariello added a victory in the 800 with a 2:48.27 showing.

Kimberley placed second in the open 400 and third in the 400 hurdles with respective times of 1:06.54 and 1:16.64. Erica Houge was third in the high jump with a jump of 4-8, Leslie won a bronze medal in the long jump with a distance of 14-6.75 and she joined up with Erickson, Houge and Merryman to place third in the 4X200 with a time of 2:01.63.

The Collins-Maxwell boys received wins from Ethan Haus in the 3,200 and Dane Beattie in the long jump.

Haus ran a 10:45.43 to top Baxter's Matt Richardson, who finished in 10:50.82. Beattie jumped 20-3 to easily top the 19-1.5 by Baxter's Logan Rainsbarger for the boys' long jump title.

The Collins-Maxwell boys picked up a gold medal in the distance medley as Brown, Caleb Dvorak, Beattie and Haus finished in 3:55.83

Haus also took second in the 1,600 after crossing the finish line in 4:57.28 to come in just behind the 4:56.91 time by Lynnville-Sully's Hendrick Lowry. Luke Huntrods was runner-up in the boys' discus after throwing 140-10 to come in behind the 149-7 throw by Coon Rapids-Bayard's Lance Clayburg.

The Collins-Maxwell boys' sprint medley team of Jace Huntrods, Brown, Caleb Dvorak and Josef Dvorak placed second in 1:43.02.

The Ballard girls won two events and the boys picked up one individual and relay victory apiece at the Carroll Co-ed Invitational. Full results for the boys were not available.

The Bomber girls won the 4X800 relay and Annika Larson took first in the 1,500. Paityn Noe, Brynn Wilson, Jada Lande and Ava Richardson won the 4X800 in 10:38.93 and Larson clocked in at 5:05.05 in the 1,500.

Noe was runner-up in the 800 with a 2:18.38 showing, Ava Vance took second in the 3,000 with a time of 11:38.85, Noel Boettger won silver in the 200 after finishing in 27.96. Ally Baker was runner-up in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.47.

The Bomber girls' shuttle hurdle team of Boettger, Reagan Bartlett, Anya Jorgensen and Baker also finished second after running a 1:13.55.

Boettger placed third in the 100 with a time of 13.50 and Wilson won bronze in the 400 hurdles after clocking in at 1:18.36. Kasey Larson was third in the high jump after jumping 4-8.

The Bomber distance medley team of Kuiper, Kate Miller, Katie Tollefson and Brenna Baumgardner finished third in 4:44.98. The girls' 4X400 team of Boettger, Miller, Tollefson and Richardson also placed third after running a 4:29.44.

The Ballard boys saw Chance Lande and Jameson Witt go first and second in the open 400. Lande won in 51.33 and Witt clocked in at 52.46.

The Bomber boys also won the sprint medley in 1:36.99, easily beating Carroll's runner-up time of 1:40.26.

Eli Rouse ran a 23.59 in the 200 to finish second to Kuemper Catholic's D.J. Vonnahme, who ran a 23.39. Jayden Swain jumped 19-11 in the long jump to take second to the 19-11.25 jump by Carroll's Reece Ziegmann and the Bomber boys' 4X800 team was second with a time of 8:29.45.

The Ballard boys track team picked up a pair of relay victories at the Saydel Invitational.

The Bomber sprint medley team of Swain, Jaden Peasley, Rouse and Lande won in 1:37.03. Witt and Jakson Fleischmann joined Rouse and Lande to run a winning time of 3:28.44 in the 4X400.

The Bomber 4X200 team of Rouse, Swain, Eric Sydnes and Jude Gibson placed fourth with a season-best time of 1:35.37. Max Davidson took sixth in the 3,200 after completing the race in 11:27.06.

The Ballard boys tennis team was dominant during its victories over Grinnell and Clarke.

In the win over Grinnell, the Bombers picked up five singles wins and four in doubles play.

In singles play Caden Miller blanked Grinnell's Tamer Bush in the No. 1 match, 8-0. Emmett Miller scored an 9-7 victory Will Burkhead in the No. 3 match, Jace Krogh won the No. 4 match over Trent Turba in a 9-8 battle, Dawson Brekke coasted to an 8-2 victory over Brady Grife in the No. 5 match and Jaron Watson edged the Tigers' Justin Durr in the No. 6 match, 9-7.

The Millers won the No. 1 doubles match over Grinnell's team of Bush and Ben Kelne, 8-3 and Brekke and Ian Godbold took the No. 2 match over Burkhead and Grife by an 8-5 decision. Krogh and Watson also scored an 8-5 win over Grinnell's team of Turba and Durr in the No. 3 match and Beau Warg and Drew Pingel won the No. 4 match over the Tigers' Cole Blackford and Kinnick Johnson by an 8-2 margin.

Ballard earned six sweeps in singles play against Clarke. The Bombers also delivered a pair of sweeps in doubles competition, with the result of the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches not available at press deadline.

In singles play Caden Miller earned 6-1 and 6-0 wins over Clarke's R.J. McCoy in the No 1 match and Emmett Miller pulled off two 6-2 wins over J.D. Sitzman in the No. 2 match. Krogh won two 6-3 sets over Aydan Dinham in the No. 3 match and Watson and Isaiah Ziegler each delivered 6-0 and 6-1 wins in the Nos. 4 and 5 matches over Clarke's Nathaniel Rowe and Casey Wade.

Doubles play saw Brekke and Godbold earn a pair of 6-4 victories over Clarke's team of McCoy and Sitzman in the No. 1 match. Warg and Pingel also delivered two 6-4 wins over Dinham and Rowe in the No. 2 match.

Godbold and Brekke each won a singles match by an 8-4 score for Ballard during its loss to Urbandale. Godbold won the No. 2 match over Urbandale's Elijah Ajiri and Brekke defeated Ariston Velman in the No. 5 match.

Ballard picked up two singles and one doubles victory during its setback to Norwalk.

Caden Miller swept Norwalk's Hayden Steele in the No. 1 match, 6-3 and 6-3, and Brekke delivered a pair of 6-2 victories over the Warriors' Braylon Stockwell in the No. 5 match. Warg and Pingel picked up a 7-6(7-4) and 6-0 sweep of Norwalk's Carson Menke and Tyler Stiegelmeier in the No. 4 doubles match.

The Ballard girls tennis team was doomed by a 0-5 showing in doubles play during its loss to Norwalk.

The Bombers fell despite going 4-2 in singles play.

Kaitlyn Zugay, Kiley Calvert and Gracie Ross all earned a 10-6 victory and Jocie Hobbs added a 10-3 win in singles competition for the Bombers. Zugay defeated Norwalk's Kelsey Dammeier, Calvert topped Anya Kallenbach, Ross knocked off Madison Haskell and Hobbs took care of Samantha Aagard.

The Ballard boys golf team used good balance to win the Carroll triangular meet.

Mason Gatchel, Ben Wright and Andrew Princehouse all placed in the top five for Ballard. Gatchel was medalist runner-up with a nine-hole score of 37, Wright took third with a 38 and Princehouse was fourth with a 41.

Lincoln Miller and Brady Kruger tied for sixth with identical rounds of 43 and Jake Oldenkamp shot a 48 to tie for 11th for the Bombers.

Results for the Woodward-Granger Invitational were not available at press deadline.

Like with the Ballard boys, the Bomber girls golf team used a well-rounded effort to get past Carroll during its home dual victory over the Tigers.

Carroll's Delaney Schurke won medalist at the meet by six strokes with a nine-hole score of 41. But Ballard had the four lowest scores after Schurke.

Maddie Kielsmeier was medalist runner-up for the Bomber girls with a 47. Alliyah Thompson placed third with a 48, Chastyn Gering took fourth with a 50 and Aubrey Estrem shot a 51 to place fifth and round out Ballard's team scoring.

Taylor Engstler and Madelyn Baltes also competed for Ballard Engstler placed seventh with a 53 and Baltes 12th with a 66.

The Ballard boys soccer team pulled off competitive wins over Boone and Carroll last week.

The Bombers picked up their first win of the year against Boone in overtime. Logan Huntrods had 1 goal and assist apiece, Liam Hurst netted 1 goal and Caleb Lehmkuhl dished out an assist.

Parker Becker made three saves at keeper against the Toreadors.

Ballard did all of its scoring against Carroll in the first half. Lehmkuhl pulled off a hat-trick with 3 goals, Harbor Wilcox scored once, Huntrods dished out two assists and Kole Swan and Isaac Powers each had one assist.

Becker made seven saves versus the Tigers.

In the loss to Greene County the Bombers gave up 4 goals in each half. They only got off four shots and Becker made 18 saves.

The Ballard girls soccer team scored five times in each half during its victory over Carroll.

The Bomber girls had four player score at least two goals against the Tigers. Claire Landmesser pulled off a hat-trick with 3 goals, Megan Rowedder tallied 2 goals and assists apiece and Amelia Faubus and Katie Tollefson each recorded 2 goals and one assist apiece.

Kjersten Olsen chipped in 1 goal and Emily Rochleau handed out an assist. Maddie Catron made three saves at keeper.

Ballard was unable to capitalize on 13 shots during its loss to Boone. Catron made nine saves at keeper and Boone's lone goal came in the second half.
